Early Fall Update Print
Written by Webmaster
It is past time for an update! Sorry I’ve been slacking but I’ve just been busy. Between the Appleby Fire Dept., working on the Fire Dept. website, working on computers, and getting ready for deer season, I just haven’t made much time for this website or my blog. Everything is going great and I have nothing to complain about, which is a great thing. I’m loving the Fire Dept. and learning a ton of new stuff. I’m on the building committee for the new fire station and I’m really excited about this project as the ball is finally starting to roll. Amanda joined the dept. as a support member and has been helping out in every way she can. We spent some time at the Nacogdoches Co. Fair this week working in the Appleby Fire Dept. booth where we had a game setup for kids to play and while we try to do some PR work with some of the people in our district.

The weather has really started changing and tonight is actually our coldest night so far, 51 degrees and it feels great. It has been pretty warm and dry for the last few weeks and this cool weather is finally making it feel like bow hunting weather. Speaking of hunting…..the buck crop this year is phenomenal. I’m simply speechless about the bucks we’ve gotten photos of so far. It actually started off very very slow for us this year when it came to getting buck photos. My brother and I had cameras out everywhere and were getting very few photos at all, none of which were bucks. I had my cameras out for almost four weeks before I got my second buck photo. I was starting to wonder where they went. Well, when they showed up, they showed up in a big way. We’ve got a lot of 3.5 year old bucks showing up sporting some amazing racks. The couple 4.5+ year old bucks we’ve seen so far are looking like they might be shooters and if not this year, definitely next year. We’ve got photos of more 125+ B&C bucks than we’ve seen in the last 3-4 years combined. The very wet spring and summer we had has really done wonders on the racks of these bucks. We’ve got great genetics and have made our best attempt at management over the last 12+ years and some of that hard work is showing itself this year.

So as you can tell I’m very excited about the prospects of this deer season. Even if I don’t kill a buck this year, the excitement of getting all these photos of great bucks will have made it an awesome season. I’m saying all this now but if these bucks disappear tomorrow, I might be singing a different tune.HA!

That is enough for now, but go check out the Trail Camera Photo section of the Photo Gallery to see just a tiny sample of the thousands of photos we’ve gotten so far. Also, check out ApplebyFire.com to see a few of the photos I’ve been taking at a few of the calls we’ve run.
