Summer 2006....It's hot Print
Written by Webmaster
Today is July 24, 2006 and it's hot. Actually the temperature has cooled down this week and it is only 93 degrees today, which is a nice break from last week's 100+ daily temps. I know that the whole country seems to be experiencing a heat wave this summer, but it's nothing new here in East Texas. Unfortunately, the worst is yet to come as we are about to enter August, which historically is the hottest and driest month of the year for us. With all of that being said, you might understand why the thought of deer hunting is far from my mind. However, last week my buddy Andrew mentioned that he had bought the 2006 Realtree Monster Buck DVD's and was watching them from start to finish. I told him that while I think the Monster Buck videos are the best, I had no desire or interest to watch hunting videos right now. I hate the hot, humid summer months. The woods are covered in poison ivy, snakes are everywhere and you can't keep from sweating to death out in the hot humid air. Oh and did I mention that our land is down in the La Nana Creek bottom where the mosquitoes grow to be the size of hummingbirds. You think I'm joking.

So Andrew is talking about hunting videos and I can see the wheels turning in his head as he starts to think of fall and chasing big whitetails. Personally, I'm thinking about poker and why not? It's too hot to do anything else, why not stay inside where it's cool, play some cards and study up on my game. Then my dad comes in my office and starts talking about where we should put up more deer stands in Oklahoma. Sorry guys, call me about October and I'll be in the mood. So I decided I'd come check out my website and see how much content and how many photos I haven't uploaded that I really need to. I just haven't had the energy or motivation to get around to. Then I saw the photos from last year's Oklahoma hunt. Wow. Oh and look at that big 12 pt that kept slipping into my corn in the middle of the night here in Appleby. I can just imagine how big that deer has grown to be this year. I wonder where he's laid up at right now? Ok, so maybe I am starting to think about hunting, but only a little bit. When I feel the temperature slowly start to slip from the 100's to the high 80's and a little breeze in evenings, then I'll really start to get excited about what lies ahead. But until then, I'm content to stay indoors and play some Texas Hold'em. It's only 61 more days until the official start of Fall, but hey, who's counting?
